NCAA DIVISION II BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT PREVIEW--PART TWO

NOTE: Our NCAA Division II basketball tournament outlook continues with the women's bracket in the South Atlantic region. Teams in conferences covered by D-II South Sports are listed in BOLD type.

SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION--WOMEN--at Raleigh, N.C.

Shaw (29-1) vs. USC Aiken (19-12)

The Lady Bears hope the third time will be the charm, as they hold the top seed in the South Atlantic regional for the third year in a row. The last two years, a Peach Belt Conference team has eliminated Shaw from postseason play: Augusta State in 2004, and North Florida in 2003, both eventual Elite Eight participants. As for USCA, the Lady Pacers will make their second appearance in the NCAA tournament, their first since 2002.

Columbus State (20-10) vs. Wingate (20-10)

The Lady Cougars return to the NCAA tournament after a one year absence last season. CSU will face a Wingate team that fell to Carson-Newman in the finals of the South Atlantic Conference tournament.

Carson-Newman (23-7) vs. Fayetteville State (16-9)

The Lady Eagles take on the Lady Broncos in the 3-6 match-up. C-N earned the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by winning the SAC tournament title. On the other hand, Fayetteville earned its way to an at-large bid despite losing in the quarterfinals of the CIAA tournament to Winston-Salem State.

Newberry (18-11) vs. Clayton State (24-6)

The Lakers face the the Lady Indians in a battle of first-time participants in the NCAA tournament. Clayton State swept the regular season and tournament titles in the Peach Belt Conference, while Newberry earned its initial trip to postseason after finishing fifth in the SAC at the end of the regular season.
