NCAA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT RECAP

Just over a decade ago, the University of Montevallo (Ala.) Falcons were a fledgling NAIA program trying to adjust to the NCAA Division II ranks. Now the UM men are in the Elite Eight for the first time in school history, as they held off Arkansas-Monticello 89-86 to win the South Regional title Tuesday night in Cleveland, Miss. The Falcons will face West Regional champion Seattle Pacific in the national quarterfinals in Springfield, Mass. Wed. March 22.

While UM was celebrating its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, the Georgia College & State University squad's quest to advance to the national quarterfinals for just the second time ever fell short Tuesday, as the Bobcats lost to defending national champion Virginia Union 76-73.

Finally, Henderson State downed Delta State for the third time in four games to advance to the Women's NCAA Division II Elite Eight at Hot Springs, Ark. Wed. March 22. The Lady Reddies (29-4) will face West Regional champion Cal State Chico in the national quarterfinals.
