COUNTDOWN TO MARCH MADNESS

TOP WOMEN'S GAMES

Francis Marion (10-13, 8-9) at UNC Pembroke (L)--(14-10, 9-8)--Monday 5:30 p.m. EST
GC&SU (14-11, 9-9) at Armstrong Atlantic State (13-11, 8-9)--Monday 5:30 p.m. EST

Now that North Georgia (22-3, 18-0) has clinched the Peach Belt Conference regular season title, and Clayton State (20-4, 14-3) has earned the top seed for the PBC tournament (the Lady Saints can't compete in the conference tournament because of their transition from the NAIA to the NCAA Division II level), the main focus now turns to finalizing the remaining seeds for next week's event in Greenwood, S.C, as the four teams mentioned above are separated by no more than one game for the third seed. By the way, NGCSU clinched the regular season crown by defeating the Lady Bobcats 77-63 on Saturday, while Clayton State finished second in PBC play by crushing UNCP 65-29. If that wasn't enough, the Braves will also take a three game losing streak into the FMU contest. Plus, UNCP also sits one game behind USC Upstate (13-11, 10-7) for third place (#2 PBC tournament seed).

TOP MEN'S GAMES

Columbus State (20-7, 14-4) at Clayton State (20-4, 13-4)--Monday 7:30 p.m. EST
GC&SU (18-6, 15-3) at Armstrong Atlantic State (19-5, 13-4)--Monday 7:30 p.m. EST

While the Clayton State women have already sewn up the top seed for the Peach Belt Conference tournament, the men's regular season title, as well as the top seed in the men's bracket, are both still up for grabs, as the top four teams in the league standings meet to decide who will get at least a share of the crown. Three of those four games won their games Saturday, with the Lakers pounding UNC Pembroke 80-52, CSU getting by Francis Marion 78-67, and the Bobcats defeating North Georgia 91-84. GC&SU remained in sole possession of first place in the PBC with the win over the Saints. Don't be surprised if the race for the conference crown comes down to the final day of the regular season, which is Saturday, February 25.
