TOP WOMEN'S GAME
USC Upstate (12-10, 9-6) at Georgia College & State University (13-10, 8-8)--Wednesday 5:30 p.m. EST
With apologies to North Georgia (20-3, 16-0), which can clinch no worse than a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular season title with a win at Columbus State (15-11, 8-8), this aforementioned contest carries just as much weight as far as implications for the upcoming PBC tournament go. Wins by GC&SU and Columbus State, combined with a UNC Pembroke loss at Augusta State Wednesday, could put both the Lady Bobcats and Lady Cougars, respectively, within half a game of the Lady Braves and Spartans in the race for the second and third seeds in the conference tournament (Remember, North Georgia can't compete in the PBC tourney due to their transitional status from the NAIA to the NCAA Division II level). But a Upstate win over GC&SU, combined with a UNCP loss to the Lady Jaguars, could give the Spartans sole possession of third place in the PBC.
TOP MEN'S GAME
North Georgia (14-8, 10-6) at Columbus State (18-7, 12-4)--Wednesday 7:30 p.m. EST
Just when things couldn't get any tighter in the race for the Peach Belt Conference men's basketball regular season title, they just did. The Cougars found themselves on the wrong end of a 73-70 upset loss at Augusta State Saturday night, only to bounce back two nights later to defeat Lander 77-67. Now CSU must face a Saints squad that has won five straight games, the latest victory a 78-64 triumph over a USC Upstate team (13-8, 8-7) that has yet to find the win column in February, having lost four games in a row heading into Wednesday's contest at current PBC leader GC&SU. Wins by CSU and Armstrong Atlantic State, combined with a Bobcats loss to the Spartans, would create a three-way tie for first place between the Pirates, Bobcats, and Cougars, with idle Clayton State (19-4, 12-4) trailing by half a game.
