MARCH MADNESS UPDATE

Clayton State has advanced to the Women's NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the first time ever. But the Laker women needed to overtime to punch their ticket to Kearney, Nebraska, as they edged Georgia College & State University 66-65 at Morrow, Ga. Monday night in the final game of the South Atlantic Regional. The win improved the Lakers record to 28-5 on the season. The 28 wins is a school record for the Clayton State women.

Meanwhile, in Fort Myers, Fla., the Delta State University Lady Statesmen's quest to advance to the national tournament fell short that same night, as Florida Gulf Coast ran its record to 32-0 with a 57-44 win.

The title game of the Men's South Regional is set, with the top-seeded Falcons from Montevallo facing sixth-seeded Cinderella Eckerd for the right to advance to the Elite Eight Tuesday night. UM advanced to the finals with a 78-66 win over Albany State, followed by a 66-58 overtime victory over Henderson State the following night. As for Eckerd, the Tritons upset third-seeded Benedict
66-56, and second-seeded Rollins 85-76 to reach the Sweet 16.

Finally, in the Men's South Atlantic Regional at Augusta, Ga., the Peach Belt Conference found itself shut out of the final game, as the two remaining teams in that bracket saw their seasons end in the semifinals Sunday night. Top-seeded Augusta State was knocked off by fifth-seeded Wingate 79-78, while third-seeded fell Clayton State fell to second-seeded Virginia Union 71-70 in overtime.
