Regional Rankings Analysis--Women

EDITOR'S NOTE: For the rest of the regular season, until the week of March 4, D-II South Sports will have a brief analysis of the men's and women's basketball rankings, in both the South and Southeast Regions, respectively. The women's rankings will be studied each Thursday, followed by the men on Friday.

Teams in conferences covered by D-II South Sports are listed in BOLD type.

South

1. Rollins

2. Delta State

3. West Georgia

4. Fort Valley State

5. Arkansas-Monticello

6. Florida Southern

7. Tampa

8. Clark Atlanta

9. Arkansas Tech

10. Florida Tech

Analysis: Four Gulf South Conference teams were ranked in this week's South regional poll. They were led by Delta State, whose Lady Statesmen remained No. 2 despite losing last week. Arkansas-Monticello, though, should provide a strong challenge for DSU down the stretch. On the other hand, Fort Valley State and Clark Atlanta are carrying the banner for the SIAC, as the regular season starts to wind down.

Southeast

1. Francis Marion

2. Lenoir-Rhyne

3. Carson-Newman

4. Tusculum

5. Clayton State

6. USC Aiken

7. GC&SU

8. Newberry

9. Mount Olive

10. Barton

Analysis: Francis Marion (20-1 overall, 13-1 in Peach Belt Conference) has been the class of the Southeast region so far this season, as the Patriot women have lost only once this season, to No. 6 USC Aiken. But Clayton State and Georgia College & State Universities have been gaining strength, as both teams have won six and eight straight games, respectively.
