FORMER GC&SU PITCHER MOVES UP

HICKORY, N.C. – Former Georgia College & State University pitcher Christian Castorri was recently called up to the Hickory Crawdads, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Class-A affiliate in the South Atlantic League.

Castorri, who finished his GCSU career in 2006, started the season at the State College Spikes in State College , Pa. part of the Class-A Short Season New York-Penn League. There, he pitched in three games, going 0-0 with an impressive 1.59 ERA over 5 2/3 innings.

The righty began pitching for the Crawdads June 29 and has been busy, making four relief appearances, going 2-1 without allowing an earned run in 6 1/3 innings.

The Thomasville , Ga. native played two seasons at GCSU, going 9-4 over his career. He posted a 7-3 mark with a 2.97 ERA over 18 appearances in 2006, leading the team in complete games with three.
