After winning both the Gulf South Conference and NCAA Division II South Central Regional titles, the University of North Alabama volleyball team moved to one step closer to playing a national championship Friday, as the nationally sixth-ranked Lions downed tenth-ranked Ashland (Ohio) 3-0 to advance to Saturday's national semifinal. UNA will play the winner of the Lock Haven-West Texas A&M match this weekend at Pensacola, Fla.

Meanwhile, just across town at Brosnaham Park, the University of West Florida men's soccer team's hopes of winning a national title in front of the home crowd disappeared in heartbreaking fashion, as top-ranked Dowling rallied from a two-goal deficit in two minutes to eliminate in Argonauts in overtime Thursday night. The match was tied 3-3 at the end of regulation and overtime, but Dowling outscored UWF 5-4 on penalty kicks to advance to Saturday's title match. With the loss, the Argonauts season ended with a 20-1-3 record.
