HELFER NAMED VALDOSTA STATE MEN'S COACH

Valdosta State University (Ga.) finally has a new men's basketball head coach, as Mike Helfer became the sixth head coach in school history Friday. Helfer won 186 games in eight seasons as head coach at NAIA Southern Polytechnic State University (Ga.), while also leading the Runnin' Hornets to two straight conference titles. Helfer replaces Jim Yarbrough, who resigned to take the head coaching position at NCAA Division I Southeastern Louisiana University.
